Do the concepts outlined in the Warrior’s Way only apply to lead and top rope climbing?

While the class will take place in the lead and top rope portions of the gym, all of the skills and techniques apply to all climbing disciplines. Mental interference influences our decision making process regardless of the climbing environment. Learning to focus under pressure, diminish fear, and improve commitment are skills that apply to sport climbing, trad climbing, and bouldering.

Will I be required to participate in every exercise?

­While students are introduced to these skills in a graduated format, we understand that everyone’s individual comfort level will be different. Students will not be forced into situations beyond their comfort level. We encourage you to make your concerns known to your instructor so that she or he can provide guidance.

Is this a falling clinic?

­Learning how to fall is a component of the Warrior’s Way, but it is only one of several topics covered in the course. Many of the drills and exercises focus on improving your belay technique, your decision making skills on the wall, and ultimately honing your ability to focus and improve commitment.
